MIAMI, FLORIDA, November 8, 2023.- Inter Miami coach Gerardo Tata Martino has ruled out the possibility of a new inter-American tournament that would bring together the champions of the Leagues Cup, the Concacaf Champions League, the Copa Sudamericana, and the Copa Libertadores.
“Even though I think it’s a wish of many people, not even one thinks about where they’re going to put it. It’s not a tournament that sounds good, but well, with so much competition as there is, it’s difficult to think that it can be placed anywhere in the year.”
Martino also spoke about Inter Miami’s 2023 season, which ended with their elimination from the MLS Cup.

“It was a season with many ups and downs,” Martino said. “We had a great start, but then we had a couple of very difficult months. We were able to end the year by winning a championship, but we are not satisfied with what we did.”
Inter Miami will face New York City FC in a friendly on Friday. Martino said he hopes the match will be an opportunity for the players to say goodbye to the season and prepare for the next one.
“It’s a good opportunity to get back to competing, even if it’s at a friendly level,” Martino said. “It’s also an opportunity to say goodbye to the season and prepare for what’s to come.”
Inter Miami is scheduled to begin preseason on January 7. Martino said he hopes the team will have most of its players by then.
“Preseason is very important,” Martino said. “We have to prepare well for the next season.”
