Carlos Acevedo: “I’m not worried about losing my spot in the Mexican national team”

MONTERREY, NL.- Carlos Acevedo, goalkeeper for Santos Laguna, said ahead of the match between his team and Monterrey, that he does not consider that he has lost ground in the race to be Mexico’s goalkeeper in the next World Cup.

Acevedo was questioned about whether he thinks the injury that sidelined him from the Mexican team could leave him out of the competition for the starting spot in the upcoming Copa América or the World Cup, to which the goalkeeper responded directly that he does not consider it to be that way.

“I don’t think I’ve lost ground in the fight for the goal, I think your performances with your team bring you closer or further away from the national team, for me it’s a challenge and a rematch to return to the Mexican National Team and I will work every day to be there,” said the goalkeeper.

On Wednesday’s match, Acevedo assured that it is a final, as the team has no tomorrow and they will come out to give it their all for the three points that he added they need.

Santos still has a chance of reaching the Mexican soccer playoffs, but to do so it is very important to get a good result on Wednesday in the pending game against Monterrey.

Acevedo recognized that for the Laguna fans, the match against the teams from Monterrey is special, as there has always been a regional rivalry.
