MEXICO CITY.- Speculation about the possible arrival of Fernando Alonso to Red Bull continues, as the Spanish driver would be considering leaving Aston Martin due to changes that have occurred in the team’s group of investors.
Verstappen would have approved in principle the option of Alonso being at his side to fight for the championship of the 2024 Formula One season.
Currently, his teammate, the Mexican Sergio Checo Pérez, has a current contract with Red Bull for one more year; However, despite this, the change could occur and facilitate the Mexican’s departure.
The constant tensions between Verstappen and Checo, coupled with the results that have been below expectations for the Guadalajara-born driver, have given rise to talk of a change of driver for next season.
Checo Pérez said that he will fulfill his contract, which only has next season remaining, and that then he would look for a new team, since he intends to race three or four more years.
Immediately, teams like Alfa Romeo have shown interest in signing Checo Pérez, in the event that he is left without a team or leaves Red Bull.
Speculation about the possible arrival of Fernando Alonso has gained greater strength, after Aston Martin’s disappointing performance in the second half of the season and Czech’s poor results at the end of the campaign.
Another of the natural candidates to keep the Checo seat is Daniel Ricciardo, who on Sunday completed an extraordinary career with the modest Alpha Tauri.
Without a doubt, the Red Bull second driver seat is one of the most sought-after, and the next races would be key to determining whether Checo continues or another driver arrives to try to compete with Max Verstpapen.
