CHICAGO (August 31, 2024) – Inter Miami CF (18W-4L-5D, 59 points) secured a commanding victory by defeating Chicago Fire FC 4-1 away from home on Saturday night. The team, led by Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, dominated at Soldier Field with a standout performance from Luis Suárez, who scored a brace and recorded his 21st goal contribution of the 2024 MLS regular season. The other goals came from Robert Taylor and an own goal by the opponent.
With this win, Inter Miami solidifies its position as the team with the most unbeaten away matches in the current MLS season, extending their streak to 11 matches without a loss on the road.
Head coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino praised Suárez’s performance after the match: “After the goal, we had control, and I think until the last 10 or 12 minutes of the game, it was like that. Then we dropped back a bit, but the guys who came in did well, so we were able to close out the game with Robert [Taylor]’s goal. Luis [Suárez] was probably the best player on the pitch.”
Inter Miami started the match with Drake Callender in goal; a five-man defensive line consisting of Marcelo Weigandt, Ian Fray, Sergio Busquets, David Martínez, and Jordi Alba; Federico Redondo and Yannick Bright in midfield; and in attack, Julian Gressel and Diego Gómez supported Suárez as the lone striker.

The visitors began the game with intensity and were rewarded in the 25th minute with the opening goal, resulting from an own goal after a shot by Suárez inside the box. With this slim 1-0 lead, they went into halftime.
At the start of the second half, Inter Miami doubled their lead thanks to a goal from Suárez in the 46th minute. The Uruguayan striker finished with his left foot at the near post after receiving a through ball from Gómez, marking his 15th goal in the regular season and his 19th across all competitions.
Suárez continued his brilliant performance in the 65th minute, securing his brace and extending the lead to 3-0 after a great combination play with Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. With his 16th goal in the MLS season, Suárez matched the club record set by Gonzalo Higuaín in 2022 for most goals in a single MLS season.
Chicago Fire pulled one back in the 82nd minute with a goal from Georgios Koursias, but Inter Miami sealed the match with a goal from Robert Taylor in the third minute of stoppage time, following an assist from Leonardo Campana. Taylor scored his fifth goal in the regular season and sixth across all competitions.
The final score of 4-1 held until the final whistle, earning Inter Miami three valuable points. The team’s next challenge will be hosting Philadelphia Union at Chase Stadium on Saturday, September 14th, at 7:30 p.m. ET, in what promises to be another thrilling match of the 2024 MLS regular season.
