Inter Miami opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Matías Rojas netted his fifth MLS goal of the season, capitalizing on a quick transition play. Jordi Alba initiated the attack with a well-placed pass down the left flank to Diego Gómez, who found Messi inside the box. Though Messi’s shot was saved, Rojas followed up with a powerful right-footed strike on the rebound, giving Miami a 1-0 lead.
Atlanta United Responds Quickly
Atlanta United didn’t take long to respond, as forward Jamal Thiaré struck twice, in the 19th and 21st minutes, giving Atlanta a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Messi Scores Equalizer in Second Half
In search of the equalizer, Inter Miami brought on forward Leonardo Campana in the 60th minute, marking his 100th appearance for the club. Five minutes later, Messi leveled the game at 2-2, heading in a cross from Marcelo Weigandt after a well-orchestrated team play. The goal was Messi’s 21st in MLS and 23rd across all competitions in 2024, with Luis Suárez recording his 10th assist on the play.
Atlanta’s Late Goal Seals the Result
Despite Inter Miami’s resilience, Atlanta United’s Bartosz Slisz scored the decisive goal in the 76th minute, securing a 2-3 victory. This result ended Miami’s playoff journey but capped off a season filled with achievements, including the Supporters’ Shield title and a record-breaking points tally.
