MLS: The League That Doesn’t Stop Despite FIFA Date

HOUSTON, TEXAS. While soccer leagues around the world are on pause due to national team action during the FIFA international break, Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States keeps moving forward. Unlike most international leagues, MLS operates on a unique schedule, starting in February and ending between October and November, making it different from the global soccer landscape.

Additionally, MLS continues its games even when major stars are called up to their national teams. This weekend, as the rest of the world focuses on international matches, MLS will go on with regular competition, featuring four exciting matches scheduled for Saturday.

Matches of the Day

This Saturday, MLS will feature four matches, starting with three simultaneous games in the afternoon:

  • New England Revolution vs. St. Louis City SC
  • New York Red Bulls vs. Sporting Kansas City
  • Columbus Crew vs. Seattle Sounders
(Columbus Crew, the reigning champion, will look to stay in the title race).

Later in the day, two more games are set to take place:

  • Houston Dynamo vs. LAFC
  • Chicago Fire vs. DC United

To wrap up the Saturday action, the night will conclude with:

  • Vancouver Whitecaps vs. FC Dallas

FIFA Break and MLS

On the same Saturday, while MLS games are in full swing, the U.S. Men’s National Team will play a friendly match against Canada. However, it’s noteworthy that very few MLS players have been called up to the “Team USA.” This highlights how MLS continues with its own schedule, prioritizing its competition even during international commitments.

MLS stands out as a different kind of league, maintaining its activity and adapting to its unique circumstances while most of the soccer world takes a break for FIFA international duty.
