Nahuel Guzman receives 11-match ban for Clásico Regio incident

MEXICO CITY – After an exhaustive investigation and hearings with the parties involved, the Liga MX Disciplinary Commission has issued its final ruling on the incidents that occurred during the Clásico Regio between Club de Futbol Monterrey and Club Tigres on Day 15 of the Clausura 2024 Tournament, held on April 13.

The Commission has taken the unprecedented measure of sanctioning Nahuel Guzmán of Club Tigres with an 11-match suspension, in addition to a financial fine and hours of social work. These sanctions are based on the violation of various articles and subparagraphs of the FMF Sanction Regulations, including:

Contravening the principles of sportsmanship and “Fair Play”.

Failure to abide by the dispositions of the Match Officials.

Inciting the public to improper or aggressive acts.

Carrying out improper conduct that is detrimental to fair play and federated soccer in general.

In its autonomous capacity, this Commission has resolved to sanction with 11 games
suspension, a financial fine and hours of social work for the player Nahuel Ignacio
Nahuel Ignacio Guzmán Palomeque of Club Tigres, for the conduct shown during the match referred to
during the aforementioned match, in violation of the FMF Sanctioning Regulations.

Tigres, Rayados and Andrada punished after the Clásico Regio

Likewise, Club Tigres has been economically sanctioned for the improper conduct of its fans, employees and a publication in social networks and media, in violation of the relevant regulations.

In addition, Esteban Maximiliano Andrada of Club de Futbol Monterrey has been economically sanctioned for a publication in social networks that transgressed regulations against racism and discrimination.

Club de Futbol Monterrey also received an economic sanction for not guaranteeing security in its stadium and for the improper conduct of the cheering groups and the public during the aforementioned match.

In view of this resolution, the Disciplinary Commission emphasizes the importance of maintaining order, sportsmanship and respect in Mexican soccer, and warns both clubs of possible harsher sanctions in the event of repeat offenses. The Disciplinary Commission seeks to ensure that the sporting spectacle is always enjoyed under the principles of Fair Play.
